River Plate, Zebra set up Tshabalala juniors showdown

FOOTBALL fever gripped Bulawayo’s Tshabalala suburb at the weekend as the CKN Foundation Under-10 boys’ tournament lit up local grounds with thrilling matches and skilful displays.

Group A fixtures unfolded at Indlovu Youth Club, while Group B battles played out at Masuku Grounds.

“The tournament saw some thrilling matches, with talented young players showcasing their skills on the field. In Group A, Zebra Revolution emerged as the top team with seven points, followed closely by Flame Stars with four points. Tshabalala

Warriors finished with three points, while New Airport ended with one,” said organising secretary Roy Phiri.

He added: “In Group B, River Plate dominated the group stage with seven points, followed by Sizinda Pirates with four points, while Matric finished with one.”

Bankrolled by UK-based former professional Cecil Nyoni, who turned out for Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest, the event has drawn wide community interest. The top two teams in each group advanced to the semi-finals.

Zebra Revolution edged Sizinda Pirates 1–0 in the first semi-final, while River Plate overpowered Flame Stars 2–0 in the second, setting up a tantalising title clash.

The decisive final will be staged on October 4 at Indlovu Youth Club.

“The community of Tshabalala was treated to a football feast, with exciting matches at both venues. The event organisers, Tshabalala Sizinda Grassroots League, are thrilled with the progress of the tournament and look forward to the final match,” Phiri said.

He added, “The CKN Foundation tournament has provided a fantastic platform for young footballers to showcase their talent and passion for the sport. With the final match just around the corner, we are eagerly anticipating the thrilling conclusion to the tournament.”

Nyoni, the tournament’s sponsor, was born in Bulawayo and raised in Gwanda.
