MOSI ROVERS, a team competing in the ZIFA Southern Region Division One, encountered a setback on Saturday when their team bus collided with a pothole, causing it to veer off the road while en route to their match against Talen Vision in Filabusi.

Tafadzwa Mutowa, the secretary general of Mosi Rovers, confirmed the incident, providing details of the unfortunate mishap.

“Sadly, we had a challenge on our way to Filabusi, with the team bus going off the road for a few metres after we hit a pothole,” shared Mutowa.

Thankfully, no one suffered any injuries as a result of the accident. However, due to the shock and disruption caused by the incident, the team was unable to proceed with the scheduled game. Mutowa expressed optimism about their recovery from the incident, assuring that they would be back on the pitch for their next assignment.

This was not the sole postponed game during the weekend, as the match between Mountain Climbers and Jordan Sinnott, which was slated to take place at Luveve Stadium, also failed to kick off. The reason behind the postponement was the inability of the Climbers to raise the required amount of US$220 to pay the referees.

Jordan Sinnott, in their inaugural season in the division, are under the guidance of coach Johanisi Nhumwa, formerly associated with Manica Diamonds. With the abandoned fixture, Sinnott seem poised to secure a three-point advantage, along with three goals.

Sinnott are enjoying sponsorship from various local businesspeople in Filabusi, including Orchard Dube of Mvelase Private Limited, whose ventures encompass retailing and mining businesses.

Following their recent 2-1 victory against Zimbabwe Saints, Arenel has claimed the top spot in the division, amassing 20 points from eight matches. ZPC Hwange, held to a goalless draw by Makhandeni Pirates, currently holds the second position with 18 points.

Last season, Arenel finished third in the league standings, trailing behind the champions, Hwange, and the runners-up, ZPC Hwange. Arenel also showcased their prowess by reaching the final of the Wafa Wafa knockout competition, albeit falling short in a penalty shootout against Hwange.

As the season progresses, Arenel will face stiff competition in their quest to retain the pole position, with formidable contenders such as Adachi and ZPC Hwange vying for the coveted spot.

Coached by the esteemed Philani “Beefy” Ncube, Adachi Football Club has the expertise of Peter “Oxo” Nkomo, the former goalkeepers’ trainer for Highlanders, and former Warriors midfielder Johannes Ngodzo in their coaching staff.

With such experienced personnel guiding them, Adachi aims to make their mark in the division and present a strong challenge to their opponents.

Southern Region Division One Results:
Binga Pirates 1-5 Bosso90, DRC United 1-0 Adachi, Mountain Climbers 0-3 Jordan Sinnott
Casmyn 0-0 Ratanang, Ajax Hotspurs 1-4 Indlovu Iyanyathela, CIWU 1-2 Main Line
ZPC Hwange 0-0 Makhandeni Pirates, Arenel 2-1 Zimbabwe Saints, Talen Vision v Mosi Rovers [postponed]
