The Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) has been applauded for road rehabilitation across Mashonaland East, as the Second Republic continues its heavy investment in infrastructure programmes.
Speaking during a recent tour of several districts across the province, provincial RIDA director Mrs Phoebe Maposa said a good road network was key to economic and social development.
She said most of the roads falling under RIDA were now usable and beneficiaries were happy.
In June, the Second Republic launched a blitz to maintain access roads to polling stations across the country ahead of last week’s highly successful elections.
Apart from the nationwide road rehabilitation, RIDA also undertook borehole drilling in villages.
“As RIDA, we are rehabilitating all roads across the province that were damaged by incessant rains.”
“We had the necessary resources to work on the roads. People are happy with the work being done by RIDA. So right, now all roads especially those leading to polling stations are done and usable.
“We are thankful to Government for the resources availed which assisted us to easily execute our mandate. We will continue to work hard in fulfilling our mandate and ensure living conditions of everyone, everywhere are uplifted,” she said.
Speaking during a tour of Rwehumba-Maware Road in Chikomba district, Ward 29 councillor Mr Aaron Dzibakwe thanked the Government for rehabilitating roads in his ward and the entire district through RIDA.
“I want to thank the Second Republic and President Mnangagwa for the rehabilitation of this road, which connects us to Dorowa in Manicaland. It was in a poor state but it is now smooth and usable.
“So we are grateful to RIDA for channelling resources towards rehabilitation of this and other roads in Chikomba.”
Mr Ebson Patsika, a businessman at Maware business centre said RIDA should continue to be equipped to upgrade roads while borehole drilling would benefit communities.
“We are happy. This road is now usable, in fact, many roads have been rehabilitated by RIDA and we commend their work and that of Government. Our prayer is for this major road to be tarred, but as of now, the condition of the road is excellent.”
Archbishop Tsitsi Manhango of Bethesda Church said: “I am happy that this road is now usable. I grew up in this area and this road is important to us. We always prayed for its rehabilitation.
“Every time during our annual church gatherings, buses would get stuck or break down simply because the road was bad.
“When we raised the concern with President Mnangagwa, it did not take time to see the road being rehabilitated and now it is in excellent state.”
Meanwhile, RIDA also was commended for the provision of potable water to the people of Pfungwe under Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe Zvataida district.
The Pfungwe area is known for acute water shortages hence the intervention by RIDA to ensure water challenges are solved.
