Robbed by the mindset

Pastor Kilton Moyo, Successful Solutions

I am sure if you read my article last Sunday you began to challenge your thinking. The new you are looking for in the new year is in your mind. Never underestimate the power of your mindset in shaping your current and your future. Many of our people are held hostage by their mindsets. Today I want to show you a few mindsets that afflict a lot of us particularly in Africa.

Remember guys that I was born in Africa and have lived here for more than 50 years now and have been observing and learning and can now challenge the status quo without fear. Let me start by bringing your attention to my reference scripture for this season. Roman 12: 2. “but be yee transformed by the renewing of your mind.” See how transformation is linked to your mind. This is your personal transformation linked to the state of your own mind. In other words, the transformation you are looking for in your life might not necessarily come by education, plenty of money, suits, celebrity status etc. but by the renewing of your mind.

Do not tell me you have never seen educated people entrapped in serious deficient mindsets? Have you never seen celebrities oppressed by their mindset despite the fact that you celebrate them? You see, if you do not have control over your mind, your celebrations in each year end on New Year’s Eve. Let me challenge you on the following mindsets that I believe most of us must set ourselves to renew this year.

Have you ever considered the generational effects of our drunken mindsets, promiscuous mindsets, idolatrous mindset, and even tribal and racial mindsets? I have seen families and clans who are so oppressed by drunkenness which they enjoy as an iniquity of their forefathers. It runs through the whole clan. It is like it’s them who discovered drunkenness. All male and female are ensnared and do not know how to come out. Actually they do not want to because they claim it is their inheritance and it’s who they are. It has robbed them of their hard won cash, relationships, health, and everything.

Some fight each other and there is so much hatred among relatives. Lack and poverty has become their culture. Have you not seen such? Such people begin to blame others and anything for their predicaments and yet it is so obvious the challenge is their mindset.

I have seen families or clans ensnared in idolatry. They are so sold out to it. They believe in the dead more than in themselves. They attribute everything to the dead. They virtually live in cemeteries evoking the spirits of dead people. They put all their resources in visiting all kinds of izangoma and prophets and at the end of the day their challenges can only escalate and become worse. Beloved, this is how oppressive a mindset can be. I have seen families or clans so caught up in promiscuity.

They say it runs in the blood. Of course this is not true, it’s in the mind. There are clans known for this. It is their culture and they describe themselves by it. They are very proud no matter how much this has hurt them. They are great pretenders.

This is how a mindset can rob you of the value of truth and life. I can go on and on. There are some people who are fully convinced their tribe is superior to any other. Their race is of God and the rest are of the devil. These people spend a lifetime hating and hurting others and destroying themselves in the process.

What am I saying to you as you read this? Your mindset can be a thief of your life and success if you are not careful. If you want to see transformation in your life, resolve to come out of the traps of the mindsets I have described above. I know what I am talking about. These mindsets are silent robbers. They look and sound good from the view point of your upbringing yet they deprive you of real success in this life. How do you make it in this life when every cent you make, you take to a pub?

Every pay day, you must settle liquor debts or disappear from your family. How do you hope to make it when every monthend you must take all your money and give it to some lying spirit seeking to control you and instill so much fear you cannot move?

How do you hope to succeed when you are thinking like you are doing now? Look at the pride in your heart. Look at the anger, bitterness and envy in your heart. You hate everyone around you who does not speak your language or who has a different skin color. Beloved, all these things are traps. All these things rob humanity of her sparkly and purpose. The biggest threat to your personal peace and grooming is your mindset. It is not the situation around you. It is the situation in your mind that is pulling you down. Your mind lies to you about everything. If your mind can convince you that wrong is right and that all is impossible around you, then you are trapped. Come end of year, this year, you will be either where you are now or worse off.

In this new year, beloved, we need to think better and do things better. Let each men renew his or her mind. Let each one of us challenge themselves and demand transformation in our lives. Next time you are looking for the witch who is tormenting you and your family, just look upstairs, right in your head. Did you know that transformed individuals constitute a transformed community?

This is the reason why at Citizen Africa Foundation, we seek to help you in planning and executing the renewing of your mind so you can enjoy your God given life. Our vision and conviction is having transformed families and individuals re-building their communities, serving God and creating wealth. This year, look for us and we will help you. You can also read my book Celebrating My Africanness. It will inspire you.

Do not be robbed by mindsets, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
