Robbers disarm cop at tollgate

Sydney Kawadza Mash West Bureau
A group of robbers last Wednesday disarmed a policeman manning the Lions’ Den tollgate and made off with his service rifle.

The targeting of a firearm has  raised suspicion on the motive as the gun was stolen ahead of a failed stayaway that had been called for by shadowy political groups linked to opposition political parties.

The incident comes a few months after police arrested a group of robbers who attacked policemen in Chegutu before stealing their uniforms and  guns.

The robbers, who have since appeared in court, had made a series of robberies in Chegutu, Norton and Harare, but their luck ran out when they were arrested after a shoot-out in Chinhoyi.
