A Mutare pastor’s wife is nursing wounds after she was shot by robbers who pounced on her home and got away with an undisclosed sum of money and other valuables on Saturday. Mrs Mildren Rwodzi, the wife of Pastor Kelly Rwodzi of the Christ Embassy Church, was shot in the left thigh.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the incident. He said they were yet to account for the armed robbers.
“One of the robbers was armed with a black pistol and the other with a revolver. They entered the living room pointing the guns at the family where Mildred Rwodzi was seated with her two children. The one who was armed with the revolver demanded money from Mrs Rwodzi,” he said.
“The robbers tied the hands of their victim and the one with the revolver dragged Mrs Rwodzi to her bedroom as the second robber armed with pistol watched over the children in the living room,” he said.
“Mrs Rwodzi was then shot once on either knees and once on the left thigh before surrendering an unknown amount of cash to the criminals.” The robbers also took a laptop.
Police said Mrs Rwodzi sustained a deep wound on the left thigh and was rushed to hospital. Her children were not harmed. This incident follows a series of armed robberies in Mutare. Insp Kakohwa appealed to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the robbers to report to their nearest police station.
