Armed robbers on the prowl in Chivi, are targeting Tokwe-Mukosi families who are receiving compensation to relocate. A Chivi octogenarian who had just received US$5 000 compensation from Government pending relocation to pave way for the ongoing construction of Tokwe-Mukosi Dam was this week brutally murdered by armed robbers who are reportedly on the prowl in Gororo communal lands.
Government started paying the families relocation compensation a fortnight ago and amounts range from US$5 000 to over US$40 000 depending on the value of their homes.
The families have been receiving their compensation at the Benjamin Burombo Government complex Building in Masvingo. Mapfumo Chiramba of Jere Village under Chief Gororo died on the way to the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals after he was stabbed with an okapi knife on the stomach several times by armed robbers who also struck him with an iron bar demanding cash last Sunday.
The robbers then stabbed Mapfumo’s wife, Jestina (61) with an okapi knife several times on the back until she gave in and surrendered the US$5 000 the couple had been paid by Government as compensation a few days before.
