Robbers in $13k heist

Conrad Mupesa in MHANGURA
Armed robbers raided a fuel station in Mhangura and got away with $13 000 worth of cash and property on Monday morning. Mr Kapinda Mutengo, who was guarding the service station, was left for dead after he was attacked by robbers armed with knives and other weapons in the wee hours of Monday morning. The robbers also got away with security footage. The owner of the service station, Mr Johanne Naud, yesterday said he lost $7 000 cash and safe boxes worth $6 000.

“Right now we are still doing the paper work to see how much money was taken, but we suspect around $7 000 in cash. The two stolen safes are valued at $6 000, bringing the total value to around $13 000,” he said. Mr Naud also said one of the safes was a 1965 vintage that his wife got from her grandfather. He said he was happy that his employee was not killed.

“The robbers dragged the guard to a secluded place about 200 metres away from the station, where they bashed and left him unconscious.” Mr Mutengo was later taken to Makonde Christian Hospital in Mhangura, where he was released a day later. Mashonaland West provincial police public relations officer Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara said police were still investigating the robbery.
