A police officer guarding a senior Government official’s house was early this year shot and seriously injured by suspected robbers.
The court withheld the name of the Government official when one of the suspected armed robbers, Caution Manyonde (27), appeared before magistrate, Mr Milton Serima yesterday.
Manyonde and his accomplices who are on the run — Brighton Kubanda, Barbabas Chataika, Prince and Herbert (surnames unknown) — allegedly shot Constable Joshua Zhou of ZRP Support Unit, Chikurubi, twice on the chest with his AK47.
Manyonde was charged with attempted murder.
He was remanded in custody to November 5.
Prosecutor, Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa alleged that on January 25, Manyonde and his accomplices went to Windsor Park armed with a pistol.
On arrival at house number 668 Windsor Park, they were confronted by Constable Zhou who was guarding the house.
Manyonde allegedly pointed a pistol at Zhou demanding to know where the owner of the house was.
Manyonde wrestled with Constable Zhou and one of the robbers shot the cop twice on the chest.
The gang fled the scene leaving him lying unconscious.
Constable Zhou later gained consciousness and managed to go to Ruwa Police Station.
He was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital for treatment.
Dr Wilfred Mutewese examined Constable Zhou and indicated his injuries were severe and possibly permanent.
Manyonde was arrested at his Chitungwiza home.
