Robbing cousins gouge friend’s eye

TWO cousins from Zvishavane recently went berserk and robbed their friend of money and goods before gouging his right eye using a broken empty beer bottle.

Tariro Moyo (20) and his cousin Antony Banda (21) of Mhondongori village under Chief Wedza pleaded not guilty to robbery and attempted murder when they appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Mr Peter Madhiba.

The two were remanded in custody to Wednesday.

For the State, Mr Munyaradzi Ncube alleged that Moyo and Banda connived to rob their friend Jabulani Ndlovu who was working as a shopkeeper at Zama Zama bakery at Mimosa Mine in Zvishavane.

Mr Ncube alleged that on 24 September this year at around 9pm the two accused persons met Mr Ndlovu outside the bottle store where he was working and told him they wanted money.

It is alleged that when Ndlovu failed to produce the money they then assaulted him with fists all over the body and forcibly took beer, meat from the shop valued at $390 before breaking an empty beer bottle which they used to gouge out his right eye.

The court heard that the two fled the scene and left Mr Ndlovu bleeding profusely.

Mr Ndlovu was later seen by passersbys who took him to the hospital.

Mr Ncube told the court that the matter was reported to the police leading to the two’s arrest.
