A MAN raped the wife of a church caretaker during a robbery at a church in Bluffhill, Harare.
The 31-year-old woman endured this horrific ordeal in her own home when two armed robbers invaded her bedroom on Sunday.
Her husband heard some noise emanating from outside the house and went to investigate.
He left his wife sleeping in their bedroom.
Two masked men entered the bedroom and threatened the woman, demanding money.
They covered her face with a cloth and one of the robbers raped her. The robbers fled the bedroom when they heard the sound of some footsteps.
The caretaker was now in the company of some neighbours when he returned to his house but the robbers had already fled. Community members expressed their shock and concern.
“We are living in fear and there is a pressing need for organised security in our community,” one resident said.
“The church premises are somewhat isolated, which contributed to the delayed response.”
Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi was unavailable for comment.
Sources indicate that the case is currently under investigation at Mabelreign Police Station.
