ROBERT Sinyoka Primary School in Bulawayo, in partnership with DREAMS (Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored and Safe) hosted a cleanup and drug awareness campaign last Friday to educate the community on the dangers of drugs and substance abuse.
The theme of the event was, ‘No to Drugs and No to Mjolo.’ Ward 17 Councilor Sikhululekile Moyo said the goal of the campaign was to educate the community on the dangers of drug abuse.
“On Friday, we had a cleanup and a drug awareness campaign and these two events were hosted by Robert Sinyoka Primary School in partnership with DREAMS. As leaders of ward 17, we were invited to grace the event,” she said.
Councilor Moyo stated that drug abuse was one of the challenges in the country that needed immediate attention.
“The issue of drug abuse is rampant in our communities and this campaign helped us reach out to primary school pupils who are at risk of being initiated into drugs. The key message was on the dangers of drugs and the police cautioned the community on the dangers of selling drugs to the youths. We also taught the girls on sexual harassment and urged them to report such cases,” she said.
She urged the public to join in the fight against drug abuse.
“We urge the public to join in the fight against drug abuse because drugs ruin the lives of our children,” she said.
