ALEXANDRA Sports Club’s Clive Robertson and Julie Barnes have been selected for the Masters Bowls tournament set for this month at Highlands Sports Club.
The three-day competition is expected to run from May 24 to 26 with the country’s top bowlers taking part.
The Masters is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the country where players compete in the Singles discipline.
“I am happy to play in the Masters. It’s going to be a tough and competitive tournament but I will give it my best shot,” said Robertson.
“I did well at the Nationals, winning silver, and hopefully I will do well again in the Masters. I am doing my practice at our club and looking forward to the tournament.”
The other Alexandra bowlers to take part are Ally Dale and Heather Singleton.
Defending champion, Tom Craven, will be in contention but Mike Eaton will miss this years’ event.
“I was selected to play and I could have loved to but I will be away in Durban,” said Eaton.
Highlands will be represented by Zimbabwe skipper Kerry Craven in the women section.
Denis Streak, Jono Evans, Terry Bowes, Jane Rigby, Mel James and Jenny Schoultz are some of the big guns expected to take part.
Gweru’s top bowler Timothy Machipisa will represent the Midlands side.
