CHAPMAN golfer Robson Saurombe held on to his overnight lead to clinch the Hwange Chaferfly Open by a single stroke on Sunday.
Saurombe, who last won an event more than a year ago, started the weekend in dominant fashion when he carded a three-under-par 69 in the first round last Friday.
He then went on to score a five-under-par 67 on Saturday to stretch his lead.
“I feel very happy to have won this tournament, I have been hitting the ball very well and I was pretty confident of doing well here,” Saurombe said.
Tongo Charamba settled for second place after finishing just a stroke behind Saurombe.
Saurombe walked away with a winner’s cheque of US$3 000.
Charamba took the US$1 950 cheque, while South Africa’s Irvin Mazibuko, who finished on level par, walked home US$1 500 richer.
Peter Banda did well to finish tied on fourth place with Phillip Tshuma and Simon Katembenuka.
Meanwhile, Brendon de Jonge finished in 16th place at the Alfred Dunhill Championships at Leopard Creek in Mpumalanga, South Africa yesterday.
The Zimbabwean carded 73, 69, 68 and 72. Countrymam Ryan Cairns had a bad third round and finished a distant 44th place.
All is set for this year’s edition of the Troutbeck Golf Classic Tournament at the Troutbeck Resort on December 14.
