ROK Cup karting heads for final showdown

This Sunday sees the final round of the 2023 ROK Cup karting championship being held at the Pole Position kart track at National Sports Stadium.

The sixth round sees an interesting set of heats in all three classes.

In the Mini Rok class, the race day will confirm TK Mapiro as the Motorsport Zimbabwe Rok Cup champion.

Mapiro who has an unassailable lead in the championship with 13 wins so far this year has been in unstoppable form and together with Tawana Shambare have truly shown amazing talent.

For Mapiro’s achievements he earns himself a ticket to the World ROK Super Final being held in Italy during October.  

The Mini Roks have been the most exciting class for the whole year with competitors from the ages of 8 – 13 year olds.

Karters Seth Rukato and Yaseen Savania are expected to continue their close battle in the feisty mid field but they will have to watch over their shoulder for drivers Austin Tigere, Eshaan Savania, Matthew Mukori, Eli Pilossof who will all be in close attendance. 

In the Kid ROK class, for the youngest competitors starting from the age of 6 years, Devin Van de Linde has had an exceptional year and leads the current championship standings.

Elroy Shamu and Zac Staples will be trying to upset his form and they will have close attention from Josh Phiri, Sheunesu Shambare, Manuel Mukori and rookie Rayaan Savania who had an exceptional race meeting last time out. 

Kart Sport Club Chairman, Victor Shambare said:

“Kid Rok is the breeding class for motorsports future champions and it has been amazing to see these children gain confidence, learn sportsmanship and race craft this year.

“Although they are young, they are passionate about karting and becoming better drivers. We can look forward to a long local karting career for all of them.”

Rok Cup Zimbabwe promoter, Kevin Dufty said:

“It’s gratifying to see the ROK class growing from strength to strength in 2023 with 16 Rok competitors now racing. It is proving to be the perfect class for children aged 6 to 13 years to start a great hobby or dream of being a future champion.

“In addition, this year Motorsport Zimbabwe recognised Rok Cup as an official championship which reflects the prestige the series enjoys worldwide.”   

The 125 Max class see’s Rookie Zaydaan Savania leading the championship with both Jaedon Masiyanise and Jacob Viki battling school sports injuries during the year which has hampered their championship chances. Yeftach Ofer, on vacation from varsity raced hard earning himself several wins from the last three meetings.
