HIGHLANDERS legend and now team manager Zenzo Moyo has called for calm at the club.

Bosso have drawn four of their opening 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches.

The results have not gone down well with some pockets of the team’s fan base.

One fan threw a water bottle at the coach on Wednesday, and it caught him on the neck.

Highlanders drew their first match with Bulawayo Chiefs at home before a hearty performance against Dynamos at Rufaro Stadium, a 2-2 draw which saw Mongameli Tshuma rise to the occasion on the grandstand.

Last Wednesday, Bosso wasted a glut of chances against MWOS and were held to a goalless draw at home.

Fans went home angry that goals did not come by and questioned the substitutions.

But fans will always be fans. Their team must win.

“Rome was not built in a day. Let’s stomach the pain together; we are building something we will all be pleased with,” said Moyo.

He said the technical team’s vision is clear and that they are happy with the way the boys are responding to the coaches’ response to the new coach’s philosophy. He said it has to be noted that the coach joined the club late and that in football, a coach identifies players to suit his philosophy.

“Number one, the coach joined the club late. In as much as he would have loved to bring a few names to add to the roster, all the players on the market had already committed, and some had left the club.

“What is pleasing is that the boys we have are a marvellous group, they are working hard every day to get better. They want to succeed, which is probably a big plus for the technical team and club. At times, you get results from your not-so-big-name players, but lads who are prepared to soak in for the coaches and their employer. It is what we see of the boys and we keep telling them that they will come right soon, they are picking up the bits from Benjie (Mwaruwari and his assistants Mkhokheli (Dube) and Beke (Bekithemba Ndlovu),” said Moyo.

Moyo said he has walked down that road before.

“When I joined the club for the 1998 season, there were a lot of expectations. Morale was low, we were just a bunch of youngsters who came together and said we play for our coaches and the club, I see that in these boys.

“My appeal is that, let there be a spirit of tolerance and patience in the family, we want to give them a good season of good football and it is our prerogative that we do better than last year. I think the combinations are shaping up, there is team structure and discipline in our approach to wanting to get results. We are creating chances and in every game, we see the boys show commitment and trying their best.

“Missing chances is a very good sign that our boys are not shunning responsibility, they want it for their fans, they want it for the badge,” said Moyo a former club top goalscorer and Zimbabwe Footballer of the Year in 2000.
Moyo says the morale in the camp has stayed high with a lot of expectation of better fortunes to come.
