ROOKIE Afro-Fusion and reggae songstress, Yvonne Guza, has released a new single, “Ndaremerwa,” which is pregnant with powerful messages which tackle domestic violence.
The Chinhoyi-born musician told H- Metro she decided it was important to add her voice to national conversations around issues around this sensitive subject. Yvonne, popularly known as “ YV,” said it was very sad that women have been bearing the brunt of domestic violence.
Although she acknowledges that major strides have been made, in terms of gender equality, she feels more still needs to be done to reduce domestic violence.
“I have seen this unspeakable behaviour and orgy of violence being perpetrated against women and the girl child.
“Their cry is a voice in the wilderness and we have a duty and obligation to amplify their voices.
“Although the song is danceable, it is important for one to listen to the lyrics of the song.”
The song was produced by award-winning producer, Guylord ( Gunz) Muyengwa, of Leftside Records.
Guza has performed in Chinhoyi and other towns.
“It’s hard to find a genuine sponsor, who is not after something, especially as a female artist.
“It will be a great honour to have someone who supports my music and also is able to help me financially, “ said Guza.
She has also worked with producers like Mikelah Exclusive, Lavas, Cashflow, Prof on the Beat, Smart Zhet, Elshamah, Terry da Pro, Alleviate Beats, Cashlibs City, Lunga Beats and Super King, just to mention a few.
