Residents who spoke to Chronicle expressed concern over the development and called on relevant authorities to intervene.
“We have tried so many times to resolve the matter but to no avail. We therefore wish and urge relevant authorities to intervene before we decide to take the matter into our own hands,” said Mr Silibaziso Masuku, a resident.
He said what the man was doing was as good as extortion as he was taking advantage of their desperation.
“This is daylight robbery and he is just taking advantage of the residents desperation as most of them use the borehole to water their gardens. That is bad and it is not fair at all,” he said.
An elderly resident, Mrs Mariyeti Nkomo, said it would be better if MURA was disbanded as it was causing confusion in the area.
“They claim to be a residents association yet they are robbing the same people they are supposed to protect. I think it would be better if they ceased operations because they are causing a lot of confusion in the neighbourhood,” said Mrs Nkomo.
She said they had tried on several occasions to organise meetings with him in a bid to resolve the issue but he did not attend.
Contacted for comment, the man denied all allegations levelled against him.
“What borehole are you referring to? I know nothing about that. Anyway there is no shortage of water so why would I do that?
“There are a few people who use the borehole and besides those are lies as no one is charged for using it,” he said.
