A 30-year-old man allegedly stabbed his drinking partner during a dispute sparked by a disagreement over the music which was being played at a local drinking spot.
Godknows Njaravaza appeared before Harare regional magistrate, Jessie Kufa, yesterday charged with attempted murder.
Magistrate Kufa granted him US$200 bail.
Prosecutors allege that the incident occurred on Sunday at the corner of Enterprise Road and Harare Drive in The Grange, where Njaravaza and the victim were drinking with other patrons.
A misunderstanding arose between the two men’s brothers over the type of music being played, leading to a fist fight.
The victim is said to have intervened in an attempt to stop the altercation.
It is further alleged that Njaravaza’s older brother, Derick, fled the scene and was pursued by the victim.
As the victim caught up with him at a nearby intersection, Njaravaza allegedly stabbed him once on the left side of the stomach, inflicting a deep wound.
Members of the public ganged up and subdued the suspect and took him to Highlands Police Station.
The injured man was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he remains admitted and is receiving treatment.
As part of his bail conditions, Njaravaza was ordered to stay at his given address, not to interfere with witnesses, and to report to the Highlands Police Station every Friday.
Rufaro Chonzi appeared for the State.
