IN what is a huge development for grassroots football during the Women’s History Month, Real Betis Academy Zimbabwe have roped in Mighty Warriors striker Rudo Neshamba as a member of their technical team.
Real Betis Academy Zimbabwe last Friday announced that the Bulawayo-born Neshamba’s coming in is meant to advance the growth of girls’ teams at the Spanish club’s academy in the country.
“We are delighted to welcome Rudo Neshamba to our technical team. Rudo joins our campus to pursue her coaching career as we advance the evolution of our girls’ teams. It’s an exciting chapter in the Vision of Real Betis Academy in Zimbabwe, Rudo played at the highest level of International Football and has captained our great country Zimbabwe. She brings a lot of experience, mentorship and leadership skills to all our players both boys and girls, we are very happy to see the formation of our girls teams, we can’t wait to see girls around our national regions enjoy their football dreams and develop their talent through the methodology of our club Real Betis,’’ said Real Betis Academy chairman Gerald Sibanda.
The 31-year old Neshamba is delighted to join the Betis Academy Zimbabwe technical department and she’s eager to impart the knowledge she has gained from representing the country over the years.
“I am happy to join Betis, the Academy has shown great progress over the years in Zimbabwe, I will bring my experience from my journey in football as a player and I look forward to learn and develop as a coach under the guidance of the Real Betis technical support,” Neshamba remarked.
Real Betis Academy Zimbabwe, the first of its kind for the Spanish club has been running a Harare campus since it was established in 2020. On Saturday, training officially starts in Bulawayo with fine tuning for the Under-19 age group at the Barbourfields Stadium’s B-Arena. Former Highlanders and national team striker Zenzo Moyo has been appointed to lead the Bulawayo project, with the coaches so far being his former Bosso teammates, Johannes Ngodzo and Gift Lunga (junior).
