The competition comes after a successful Zvishavane Bulls pre-season tournament that was held last weekend at MacAdam Rugby Ground in Zvishavane.
There was no winner at the competition as bad light led to the abandonment of the final pitting star-studded Matabeleland Warriors and Gweru Sports Club.
Matabeleland Warriors were leading 8-0.
Tapiwa “Endo” Mangezi, the Matabeleland Rugby Football Board chairman, said everything was set for the Hartsfield rugby fiesta and they were hoping to get Milton and Gifford to play each other.
“The clubs that took part at the Zvishavane Bulls competition will participate at the Hartsfield games. This is an opportunity for the clubs to prepare for the 2012 season and this time around we hope to come up with a winner.
“As it is we have sent invites to Milton and Gifford so that their boys get some game time on Saturday,” Mangezi said.
National Rugby League newcomers Gweru Sports Club, Bulawayo’s Matabeleland Warriors, Western Panthers and Old Miltonians, who are in the top-flight league, participated at the Zvishavane tournament.
The other clubs were Bulldogs, Airforce, Midlands State University and the hosts Zvishavane Bulls who are in the Midlands-Matabeleland Rugby League.
Mangezi said they were hoping to get a team from Masvingo to play at the Hartsfield competition.
In Zvishavane, Matabeleland Warriors beat Western Panthers 8-3 in their first match, clobbered Midlands State University 64-0 before defeating city rivals Old Miltonians 25-0 in the semi-finals.
Gweru Sports Club, on the other hand, beat OMs 12-10 in their first game, lost 32-26 to Airforce and went on to beat Zvishavane Bulls 14-8 in the semi-finals.
