THIS past weekend saw Round 7 of the Kart Sport Club championship take place at their National Sports Stadium home track, with a celebration of exceptional skill and sportsmanship from all competitors.
Feeling confident after becoming ROK Cup Zimbabwe Champion three weeks earlier, Seth Rukato (Tony Kart) put on a masterclass display of driving and flew to victory ahead of his year-long rival Yaseen Savania (Kosmic Kart).
In a high-risk strategy, Rukato chose to let competitors pass him at the start so that he could chase and practice his overtaking skills for the upcoming ROK world final that he is attending in Italy next month.
The risk paid off and at the end of the day, he claimed the top step of the podium, setting a new lap record in the process.
Devin Van De Linde (Tony Kart) had a very good day’s racing within reach of the front pack and looks set to have an exciting 2025 season.
Following up was young Eshaan Savania (Tony Kart) who set his personal best lap time during the day.
In the young Kid ROK class, the fight between the club’s champions of the future was wide open as Elroy Shamu couldn’t make the meeting due to a calendar conflict with motocross.
An exciting battle ensued between Rayyan Savania (Tony Kart) and an in-form Sheunesu Shambare (Praga Kart) with two wins each.
Sadly, a technical fault dropped Shambare down the finishing order leaving Savania to take an incredible win with Zack Staples (Kosmic Kart) having a good day in 2nd and rookie Jake Edwards (Kosmic Kart) following up in 3rd.
The 125 Max class produced some close racing with the top three competitors producing qualifying times within 0.9 seconds of each other.
During the races, however, it was Zaydaan Savania (Ricciardo Kart) who stamped his claim on 1st place and put one hand on the championship trophy by extending his points lead.
Tawana Shambare (Kosmic Kart) was on Savania’s tail all day but an underweight kart in race one compromised his day’s results.
Eli Pilossof (Tony Kart) celebrated his 125 Max debut with a magnificent 2nd place overall with young Zayyan Savania claiming the 3rd spot on the podium.
The Pole Position Karts Prokart series provided close racing with all the competitors determined to climb on the podium.
However, the race for the top step was all about Moe Moosa and Dural Howes who both displayed some great race craft during the day.
With only two points separating the pair after a full day’s racing, it was Moosa who carried off the first place trophy while a happy Howes was satisfied with 2nd. Moosa also reinforced his dominance in this series by setting a new lap record for this class.
The Prokart class has been extremely popular during the year and has delivered on the Pole Position Kart dream to offer an intermediate step between recreational and race karting to encourage more people to try the amazing sport.
The final club meeting takes place on October 27 at the National Sports Stadium circuit, when the 2024 championship winners will be crowned.
