The Olympiad Academy Chess Championships once again showcased the rising standard of chess in Zimbabwe.
Organised by Olympiad Academy under the leadership of Tawona Magede, the championship brought together talented young players from different schools for an exciting day of competitive chess.
Magede said the tournament went on well and thanked some of the partners who helped to host the tournament.
The championship was successfully rated on the Elite Chess Rating (ECR) platform, ensuring that every game contributed towards Zimbabwe’s local chess rating system.
“Elite Chess Club was honoured to facilitate the tournament under the leadership of chief arbiter Lawrence Tavagwisa, which ensured that the competition was conducted professionally and in full compliance with the Laws of Chess,” said Magede.
“Every player who participated earned an official Elite Chess Rating with those players with existing ratings had an opportunity to improve their standings based on their performances throughout the championship.
“We are delighted to all the participating schools, players, coaches, parents, organisers, arbiters and sponsors for making this championship another resounding success.
“I would like to thank our sponsors namely King Kurls, Zimbabwe Chess Federation, Alpha Land Developers, Hove & Associates, Colcom, Creamy Inn and Soledd Finance who chipped in with support.”
