The Russia’s Centre for Open Education at St Petersburg University will next week start giving free Russian language courses at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ).

The initiative is part of the strategies to deepen bilateral relations and cultural exchange relations programmes between Zimbabwe and Russia following the launch of the Russian-Language Open Education Centre in Harare last year.

A Russian language expert from St Petersburg University will arrive in the country on Sunday, to start teaching six programmes aimed at acquiring proficiency in Russian as a foreign language.

In a media statement yesterday, the Embassy of Russia in Zimbabwe said the free Russian language courses are meant to enhance the competitiveness of learners in the global job market.

“The study of the Russian language presents an excellent prospect for enhancing one’s competitiveness in the labour market, as well as a promising prospect for those who aspire to pursue higher education in Russia in the future. The classes will start on September 10. They  will be conducted in a face-to-face format at the University of Zimbabwe in Harare,” the embassy statement said.

Zimbabwe and Russia continue to take advantage of their strong bilateral relations to promote the future development of culture and education exchanges between the two countries.
