Rute promises night to remember

tomorrow night when they perform at a private cocktail party organised by Delta Beverages for local journalists.

This will be Rute and Jazz Sensation’s maiden show in Bulawayo but the soulful singer has performed in the City of Kings before as backing vocalist for Tanga wekwa Sando and Africa Revenge.

“We are definitely going to have a good time. I have performed in Bulawayo before as a backing vocalist and I know the music fans in that city just like being treated to good music.

“What makes this show even more interesting is that I will be performing for people who make us artistes who we are — the journalists. It’s going to be fun and a night to remember. We are ready to dish out good and mature music,” said a visibly excited Rute.

She said she will perform some hit songs from her two albums, If Only My Heart Had a Voice and Rute Goes, but will spice it up with old school jazz from artistes like Miriam Makeba. She will also play some township jazz that is set to go down well with a lot of journalists.

The humble and soft-spoken Rute said the invitation to perform in Bulawayo had come at the right time as she is in the process of trying to reach out to all her fans through the “Taking Jazz back to the Township” project.

“I am finalising one or two things so that I launch this project that will see me connecting with all my fans. This show in Bulawayo is going to be quite an experience. It’s going to give me many indicators and am really looking forward to setting the house on fire,” she said.

The energetic Rute whose stage act is always filled with surprises is flying high with her latest double single entitled Harare.
Rute has vast experience performing on stage as she has performed at the Grahamstown Jazz Festival in South Africa and has toured countries such as Norway, Germany and Algeria with Jazz Sensation.

She has shared the stage with music superstars like Ringo, Jimmy Dhludhlu, Kunle Ayo and Oliver Mtukudzi to mention just a few.

Rute is the vice chairperson at the Artiste Environmental Foundation and is a music teacher at the Zimbabwe College of Music. She is also an accomplished song writer.

Asked what the scribes should expect during the show, Rute said: “It’s not everyday when one get the opportunity to play before a number of journalists. Sometimes as artistes we want to meet these journalists but it’s not always possible due to their busy schedules. Now I have the opportunity to mix and mingle with them under one roof, I can assure you that it’s gonna be a mad jazz night to remember for a long time. We will make sure that we cater for everyone through the music mix.

“There will be a lot of dancing and singing along and I want to see how good these brothers and sisters in this noble profession are on the dance floor. To the journalists I say come and let’s enjoy ourselves.” — Harare Bureau.
