MERCILESS, ruthless and brutal.
That best describes Dynamos’ performance in their annihilation of Yadah in a Castle Lager Premiership match at Barbourfields yesterday.
DeMbare had five different scorers yesterday with Shadreck Nyahwa, Elton Chikona, skipper Frank Makarati, Keith Madera and Eli Ilunga all on target.
But it was also a sad weekend for neighbours CAPS United who were beaten 1-2 by Herentals at Mandava, thanks to goals from Tino Benza and Davison Marowa either side of the half. Clive Rupi-ya scored the consolation for Makepekepe in the 78th minute.
But DeMbare were cruising at their adopted home ground in Bulawayo. Even a late red card given to defender Elvis Moyo could not dampen the host’s mood as they were desperate to bounce back to winning ways, after a shock 1-0 loss to GreenFuel in their last outing.
Moyo was sent off for violent conduct during a scuffle but that mattered nothing to DeMbare.
They scored five goals in their adopted home.
The final scoreline though may not be a true reflection of the end to end action as Yadah also had good spells of their own particularly in the second half.
However, what counted at the close of day was to outscore the opponent.
Dembare did just that perfectly well.
Dynamos’ game plan on the day was simple.
They wanted an early goal and Herbert Maruwa’s charges followed instructions.
It took only eight minutes for DeMbare to open the floodgates through Shadreck Nyahwa who headed home an Elvis Moyo corner-kick.
Four minutes later, Elton Chikona doubled the lead. Even after the two goal lead Dynamos continued to press in search of the third goal and their pressure paid dividends when they were awarded a penalty in the 20th minute.
Chikona, on the charge, was pulled by his shirt in the box and the referee Mhaka Magare pointed to the spot. DeMbare skipper, Frank Makarati took the responsibility and coolly slotted home to make it three as they looked unstoppable within the first 20 minutes and well set for an emphatic victory.
A goalkeeping error by Prince Tafiremutsa allowed Yadah to pull one back through Mandlenkosi Mlilo. From that moment, Yadah gave Dynamos a few nervy moments all the way into the second half.
It took a fourth goal from Madera with nine minutes left on the clock for DeMbare to feel they had this one in the bag.
They were made to be more comfortable after substitute Eli Ilunga tapped home from close range in additional time.
“Our game plan was to make sure we score first. If they had got the first goal they were going to be comfortable and it would have been a bit tricky. It’s a good result. We managed to get the goals which we wanted.
“I am happy with the performance of the team. We are having a good run in Bulawayo. We had a number of changes in the team but the guys who came in as replacements stepped up to the challenge,” said Maruwa.
Yadah Stars coach Expense Chitukutuku said this was a learning process for his young side.
“It wasn’t our day. In this game of football these things happen. We needed to be very cautious in defence in the first half. After conceding two quick goals it was up to the boys to step up. We have a young side, these boys are still learning,” said Chitukutuku.
