RUWA Mayor Councillor Michael Mataruka on Wednesday toured several private schools in Windsor Park, applauding their role in expanding access to quality education in the rapidly growing town.

The visit, which included Destiny Primary School, Destiny Secondary School and Little Eton Primary School, formed part of the local authority’s ongoing engagement with institutions providing critical services to residents.

During the tour, Cllr Mataruka met school administrators, inspected classroom blocks and other learning facilities, and assessed the educational programmes and learning environments.

Speaking after the visit, Councillor Mataruka applauded the standards being maintained by the schools, saying private institutions were playing a critical complementary role in the provision of education in Ruwa.

“As a local authority, we are encouraged by the high standards that we have witnessed in these schools,” he said.

“The quality of education being offered and the commitment shown by administrators and teachers towards nurturing learners is commendable,” he said.

The mayor said the rapid population growth in Ruwa had increased demand for educational facilities, making partnerships between the council and private players increasingly important.

“Ruwa continues to grow at a significant pace and, as a council, we recognise that private schools are assisting greatly in meeting the educational needs of our expanding population. Their contribution complements Government efforts and ensures that more children have access to quality learning opportunities,” said Councillor Mataruka.

He added that the council remained committed to creating an enabling environment for investment in education and other critical social services.

“We believe education is the foundation for sustainable development. Council will continue engaging stakeholders in the education sector to ensure that learners in Ruwa benefit from conducive and modern learning environments,” he said.

School authorities welcomed the visit, describing it as an important gesture that demonstrated the local authority’s interest in the education sector and its willingness to work closely with institutions serving the community.

The tour comes at a time when private educational institutions are increasingly playing a pivotal role in supplementing public education infrastructure, particularly in rapidly urbanising areas such as Ruwa, where demand for school places continues to rise.

Observers say continued collaboration between local authorities and education providers is essential in ensuring that growing communities have adequate and quality educational facilities capable of meeting future demand.
