Ruwa requires at least $5,1 million to repair more than 200 kilometres of roads that are in a sorry state, town secretary Mr Kumbirai Madanhi has said.
Ruwa is faced with a myriad of challenges, including waste management, sewer reticulation and water woes, amid reports that Nora Dam, which supplies water to the town, is left with only a few weeks’ supply.
In a recent interview, Mr Madanhi said they had put a request to Central Government to assist with funds for road rehabilitation.
“We have not received anything from Government,” he said.
“We are just working on potholes using our own resources. We are putting gravel and at times some tar and cement to minimise risk around the ways.
“We need proper road rehabilitation through funding from Central Government. We have submitted our request to Zinara, which is $5,1 million. We are still waiting for a response.”
Mr Madanhi said all the town’s roads were in serious need of attention. Ruwa is officially home to about 120 000 residents.
