GOROMONZI Magistrate Nashe Chinoperekweyi has sentenced a 26-year-old Ruwa teacher, Stanely Rusanga, to six months in prison after convicting him of indecent assault charges.
Rusanga pleaded not guilty to the charge but was convicted after overwhelming evidence was presented against him.
The magistrate initially sentenced him to one year in prison before suspending six months on condition that he would not commit the same offence in the next five years.
The State proved that Rusanga had indecently assaulted his 15-year-old student. Facts are that on October 10, 2025, Stanely Rusanga inappropriately touched his student in a science laboratory where the learner had gone to seek assistance with her school work.
The student wanted assistance with certain physics topics and had approached the teacher, who advised her to wait, since he was doing other schoolwork.
At around 3 pm, the learner again approached the teacher, again asking for assistance while he was on his way to the science lab.
She then accompanied the teacher to the science laboratory and while inside, the teacher started fondling her private parts.
The 15-year-old learner tried to run away, but the teacher grabbed her and forced her to touch his privates.
The learner later told her mother of the abuse and together they reported the incident to the police, leading to the teacher’s arrest.
