Rwanda will today commemorate the 31st Kwibuka of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, under the theme “Remember-Unite-Renew”.
Rwanda’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe James Musoni said Kwibuka is a global framework to honour the victims, comfort survivors and pay tribute to Rwandans who stopped the genocide against the Tutsi and liberated the country.
“The commemorations serve as a continued warning to humanity to ensure that the genocide against the Tutsi is not forgotten and to ensure that this dark chapter is not repeated anywhere in the world,” said Ambassador Musoni.
“Over a period of 100-days, soldiers and militias from an extremist regime hunted down and callously killed innocent people in what is the darkest chapter in human history.
“The Genocide against the Tutsi left the Rwandan society in a state of jeopardy with an unimaginable magnitude of problems, survivors found themselves living side by side with their killers in the communities, despite very high levels of hatred, fear and distrust.”
