RWANDA’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe James Musoni has hailed SADC Chairperson, President Mnangagwa, for working closely with the East African Community (EAC) to come up with an African solution to resolve the conflict in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
The SADC Chairperson has said the conflict in the Eastern DRC is complex, requiring an inclusive and honest dialogue to resolve the root cause.
As violence continues resulting in deaths, injuries and massive displacements, the SADC and EAC blocs are intensifying efforts to find a lasting solution, relying on home-grown strategies rather than international interventions. The renewed push for a unified African-led approach signals a shift away from external involvement, with hopes that regional leadership will finally bring peace to the resource-rich but war-torn nation. Addressing the media in Harare yesterday, Ambassador Musoni said Rwanda is optimistic that an African-led solution will be found.
“I want to commend our leaders, under the leadership from the SADC region led by President Mnangagwa here in Zimbabwe, and the East African Community (EAC).
“They feel that they have to work with the East African Community, and as Africans, as neighbours, and go into the root cause, rather than being driven by some outside influences.
“So, today we are seeing a different understanding, and we are optimistic that the African-led solution is going to find a long-lasting solution,” said Ambassador Musoni. Africanism, he said, is one of the key principles in Rwanda’s foreign policy.
Asked if the DRC conflict can end anytime soon, Ambassador Musoni said it was if all the parties involved were committed.
