Chronicle EditorADELAIDE. – South Africa cricket captain Faf du Plessis has been fined but will not be banned for ball-tampering during the second Test victory over Australia in Hobart.Television footage appeared to show the 32-year-old licking his finger and shining the ball while eating a sweet. Du Plessis was charged with breaching level two of the International Cricket Council code of conduct relating to “changing the condition of the ball” using an artificial substance.
He was fined 100 percent of his match fee. Three penalty points have also been added to Du Plessis’ disciplinary record, but he will be available to play in the third Test in Adelaide tomorrow. Du Plessis, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, has been deputising as skipper for the injured AB de Villiers and led South Africa to the series win with one match to spare. – BBC Sport.
