THE South African government yesterday exhumed the remains of their late liberation hero, Monwabisi Bonile Ntshinka, who was buried at Warren Hills Cemetery, Harare in 1988. Ntshinka died in Bulawayo at the age of 30 while in exile. Speaking at the exhumation, South African Provincial Minister for Arts Sports and Culture Ms Penny Majodina said the exhumation and repatriation of Ntshinka’s remains was part of a national healing process for their nation.
“We are exhuming and repatriating our liberation hero because we are rewriting our history as South Africans so that we can know the heroes who liberated this country,” she said.
Minister Majodina said people-to-people solidarity was shown by Zimbabweans through accommodating South Africans during the apartheid era
“Zimbabweans risked their own country by keeping us. They did not push us away but they embraced us as Africans. They embraced us for our own freedom and we have learnt good practices from Zimbabwe. South Africa is looking forward to building a strong African Union led by President Mugabe,” she said.
Minister Majodina said they would ensure that the remains of all their fallen heroes who are buried in Zimbabwe are exhumed and repatriated back to South Africa where they will be given the respect they deserve for sacrificing themselves in fighting apartheid
“We are healing the families of these late heroes so that they can rest in their hearts when they see the remains of their beloved ones being brought back home,” she said.
Minister Majodina thanked the Government for taking good care of the graves of their fallen heroes.
Ntshinka was a second year Law student at Fort Hare University but he left the studies to join uMkontho weSizwe and became a trained cadre.
