SOUTH African celebrities enjoyed a night of local music at New York’s iconic Apollo Theatre at the weekend. Mzansi’s musical acts Simphiwe Dana, Tumi Molekane and The Soil took to the legendary stage at the Africa Now! concert hosted by trumpeter Hugh Masekela. Fashion designer Thula Sindi kept everyone abreast of developments at the theatre, tweeting every glorious moment on the evening.

He tweeted a picture of Masekela on stage captioned “The iconic Bra Hugh is the MC for the Africa Now concert #Apollo”.
He also shared a photo of The Soil as they received a standing ovation after their performance.

Before performing, Dana tweeted that she couldn’t wait to meet former TV host Felicia Mabuza-Suttle who was in the crowd.
Rapper Tumi’s performance was “something”, as he tweeted afterwards. His set featuring Hello Kitty went down well with the audience. — Sowetan.
