JOHANNESBURG. — South Africa has been selected as the host country for the 2023 Davis Cup Africa Group III tournament, Tennis South Africa (TSA) announced yesterday.
The prestigious event will take place at TuksTennis, University of Pretoria in Tshwane during the week commencing August 7.
The globally renowned men’s professional team event will span a four-day period, from August 9th to 12th, 2023. Teams from Benin, Algeria, Namibia, Senegal, Togo, Ivory Coast, and Zimbabwe will join the host nation, South Africa, as they vie for coveted spots in the World Group II playoffs in 2024.
South Africa was relegated to the Regional Group III events after a loss to Luxembourg earlier this year in an away tie. They will be hoping to reclaim their spot in the World Group and solidify their position as the leading African nation in the Davis Cup.
The top three teams from the event will advance to compete in the Davis Cup World Group II Play-offs in 2024. Conversely, the bottom two teams will be relegated to the Africa Group IV for the year 2024.
TSA said it was honoured to host such a significant event in the Davis Cup calendar and looked forward to welcoming players, officials, and tennis fans from across Africa.

The Davis Cup, often referred to as the World Cup of Tennis, is the premier international team event in men’s tennis.
