THE glittering second edition of the South Africa-Zimbabwe Business Expo culminated in a dazzling awards ceremony that honoured more than 70 outstanding Zimbabweans making significant contributions across various socio-economic sectors.
Held amid glamour, elegance and celebration, the awards gala recognised excellence in business, leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship and diaspora impact, underscoring the growing influence of Zimbabweans beyond the country’s borders.
Organised by the Zimbabweans in Diaspora Organisation (ZIDO), the awards formed a highlight of the two-day business and property expo, bringing together entrepreneurs, professionals, investors and community leaders from South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Women emerged among the biggest winners of the night, dominating several categories and reinforcing their growing role in shaping business, commerce and social influence within the diaspora community.
Among the notable recipients was Hillary T. Pachena, who received the Excellence in Agribusiness Award, while Ethel Mupambwa was honoured with the Excellence in Financial Services Award for her contribution to the sector.
The Male Entrepreneurship Award went to Gareth Melusi Mpofu in recognition of his entrepreneurial achievements, while social media influencer Mabrijo walked away with the Outstanding Female Social Media Personality Award, highlighting the increasing impact of digital platforms in shaping contemporary society.
Innovation and technology champion MacDonald Ndovi was recognised with the Excellence in Innovation and Technology Award, while Rich & Famous Entertainment claimed the Best Music Event Award for its contribution to promoting arts and entertainment.
Other winners included Cecilia Moyo, who received the Retail and E-Commerce Business Award, and Swiss Express, which scooped the Best Travel and Transport Service Award.
Speaking on the sidelines of the awards ceremony, ZIDO chairperson Mr Blessed Kapesa said the honours were designed to celebrate Zimbabweans whose work continues to inspire communities and contribute to economic growth.
“These awards are about recognising individuals and organisations that have demonstrated exceptional commitment, innovation and leadership in their respective fields.
Excellence deserves to be celebrated because it inspires others to pursue greatness and create lasting impact,” said Mr Kapesa.
He said the awards had become an important platform for acknowledging the achievements of Zimbabweans in the diaspora who continue to make meaningful contributions to both their host countries and their homeland.
“The Zimbabwean story is rich with resilience, ingenuity and success.
Through these awards, we are shining a spotlight on remarkable achievers whose journeys serve as a source of motivation for future generations.
Their success is not only personal; it contributes to the collective advancement of our communities and our nation,” he said.
Mr Kapesa added that recognising excellence plays a crucial role in building a culture of achievement and accountability.
“When excellence is recognised, it creates a powerful cycle of inspiration and aspiration. It encourages others to innovate, invest and strive for higher standards in business, leadership and community service. That is how strong economies and successful societies are built,” he said.
Beyond the accolades, the awards ceremony reflected the growing importance of the South Africa-Zimbabwe Business Expo as a platform that connects talent, investment opportunities and entrepreneurial excellence.
As applause echoed through the venue and winners took to the stage to receive their honours, the evening served as a powerful reminder that Zimbabwean excellence continues to thrive across borders, creating opportunities, transforming industries and elevating the nation’s global reputation.
