Sable Chemicals pile pressure on Border Strikers

Midlands Correspondent
SABLE Chemicals kept the heat on log leaders Border Strikers following a 1-0 win over Tongogara in a Zifa Central Soccer League encounter in Kwekwe on Saturday.

A 63rd minute strike by Timothy Dube was enough for the fertiliser manufacturers to maintain the three-point gap between them and Border Strikers.

Border Strikers were awarded the match against expelled Mvuma Stars on a 3-0 score line to move up to 43 points.

Sables’ gaffer Kenneth Chembe said his side would concentrate on winning their games and not worry themselves about what other teams are doing.

“We’re taking each game as it comes and what we want to do is ensure that we win our remaining games,” Chembe said.

Tongogara coach Ignatius Kapitapita said his side was still in the race and described the loss to Sables as a minor setback.

“We played well and it’s unfortunate that we didn’t convert our chances. The championship race is still open and as you can see there are 10 games to go so anything can happen,” said Kapitapita.

Elsewhere, ZPC Munyati continued their freefall from the championship race after being humbled 0-1 by Blanket Mine.

Ivan Hoe’s resurgence continued with a 1-0 win over Silo United, while MSU were held to a 1-1 draw by Chrome Stars. Peter Manoti’s Gweru United moved into sixth position on the log standings courtesy of a 1-0 win over Vumbachikwe, and ZRP Beitbridge and ZETDC Southern Region drew 1-1.
