ZIMBABWE ended their participation in this year’s Victoria Cup, a four-nation rugby competition on a losing note when they were beaten 36-14 by Kenya away at Nakuru Athletics Club in Nakuru yesterday.
It was the only defeat in six matches for the Sables who had already won the Victoria Cup with a 41-5 triumph over Zambia in Lusaka last Saturday. Prop Matthew Mandioma and centre Ngoni Chibuwe scored a try each for the Sables with flyhalf Dudlee White-Sharpely kicking in both conversions. Kenya, who led 17-7 at halftime were too good for the Sables on the day and got good revenge for the 30-29 loss they suffered at the hands of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo at the beginning of August.
The Sables went into yesterday’s battle without prop Tyran Fagan and fullback Mangongo who are joining new clubs overseas. Fagan is headed for Spain while Mangongo is signing up for a Poland club.
