Zimbabwe……………………………… (16) 43

Morocco…………………………………. (5) 8

ZIMBABWE got their 2025 Rugby Africa Cup campaign off to a flyer courtesy of a 43-8 win over Morocco at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda, on Tuesday.

Ian Prior put up quite the shift scoring 23 of the Sables 43 points, scoring five penalties and four conversions.

The quartet of fullback Tapiwa Mafura, replacement Dylan Utete and wingers Edward Sigauke and Trevor Gurwe chipped in with four tries.

In response, the recently promoted Morocco could only muster a try by Yassine Maamry and a penalty from flyhalf llan El Khattabi.

Ian Prior won the MVP of game one

The win means Zimbabwe progress to Sunday’s semi-final where they will face the winners of the match between hosts Uganda and Kenya.

It also means that Zimbabwe are now within two wins from booking their ticket to the 2027 Rugby World Cup that will be held in Australia.

This year’s Rugby Africa Cup is doubling as qualifiers for the quadrennial global showcase with the winner booking an automatic ticket to the World Cup.

The runners up will have a second bite of the cherry at the Repechage tournament that will be played at a later date.
