The Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU) are making consultations on modalities for collaboration to enhance regional peacekeeping capacity in order to address emerging threats within the region and across Africa.
The initiative by the SADC Police Component and the AU’s Police Strategic Support Group (AU PSSG) also aims to enable police officers to effectively contribute to peace support operations by strengthening their capabilities, visibility and credibility on duty.
Head of the SADC Planning Element, Brigadier Molatlhegi Ntelamo and Senior Assistant Commissioner Zandile Mnisi, Head of the SADC Police Component, are leading the bloc’s delegation meeting with AU representatives at the SADC Headquarters in Botswana.
Africa and the SADC region face new security threats that include cybercrime, terrorism, intra-state conflicts, organised crime and ethnic conflicts, among others.
The meeting, which started yesterday, ends today.
