SADC holds Organ Troika Summit

The Southern African Development Community will hold an Extraordinary Organ Troika Summit today.

The Organ Troika comprises Malawi, Eswatini and Tanzania.

In a statement, the SADC Secretariat said.

“The Southern African Development Community (SADC), in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Malawi, will host a virtual Extraordinary Organ Troika Summit of Heads of State and Government on 22 June 2026.

“The Summit will be chaired by Right Honourable Enoch Kanzingeni Chihana, Second Vice President of the Republic of Malawi, on behalf of His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi and Chairperson of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.

“The Organ Troika, comprising the Republic of Malawi as Chair, the Kingdom of Eswatini as Incoming Chair, and the United Republic of Tanzania as Outgoing Chair, will deliberate on critical regional peace and security issues, reinforcing SADC’s vision of deeper integration and sustainable development.”

According to the statement, the core duty of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation is to safeguard peace and stability across the region.

“Its responsibilities include conflict prevention, management  and resolution, while upholding democratic principles, protecting human rights and preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Member States.”

SADC said the Extraordinary Summit will be preceded by virtual meetings of Senior Officials and the Ministerial Committee of the Organ on the same day.

“These preparatory sessions will provide a platform for in-depth deliberations , underscoring SADC ‘s commitment to peace , security  and regional integration,” the statement said
