THE Southern African Development Community (SADC) Senior Legal Officials Meeting is set to conclude today after four days of intensive deliberations aimed at strengthening regional integration, legal cooperation and good governance across the bloc.

The meeting, which has been held behind closed doors since Monday, brought together representatives from Ministries of Justice and Attorneys General’s offices from SADC member states to examine a range of legal and governance issues affecting the region.

Officials spent the week reviewing legal instruments and discussing measures to enhance cooperation among member states as SADC continues efforts to deepen regional integration and harmonise legal frameworks.

This morning, the technical team was finalising a set of recommendations that will be tabled before ministers at the SADC Ministerial Meeting scheduled for Friday.

The recommendations are expected to inform policy decisions and strengthen the region’s collective commitment to aligning legal systems and improving the implementation of regional protocols and agreements.

The Senior Legal Officials Meeting serves as a key technical platform within SADC’s governance architecture, providing legal guidance on matters that support regional cooperation, the rule of law and the effective implementation of decisions adopted by member states.

Outcomes from the meeting are expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to create a more coherent legal environment that facilitates trade, investment and cooperation across the 16-member regional bloc.

Ministers will consider the recommendations on Friday before adopting resolutions aimed at advancing SADC’s regional integration agenda.
