FORMER CBZ FA Cup winner Edward “Duduza” Sadomba believes Herentals have what it takes to upset Ngezi Platinum Stars and reach the quarter-finals of the ZIFA Munhumutapa Challenge Cup.
The Students face Ngezi in a round-of-16 clash at Baobab Stadium on Saturday, but Sadomba is backing Paul Benza’s charges to withstand the pressure and force their way through.
“I foresee some shock results in the round of 16, but I have a feeling Herentals can spring a surprise,” Sadomba, who won the cup with Dynamos in 2007, told Zimpapers Sports Hub.
“Herentals are always a tough nut to crack. They have a solid and unpredictable team and are always motivated, thanks to their owner, Innocent Benza.
“I am sure they will go to Baobab and try to contain Ngezi so that they force the game to penalties.”
The clash carries an interesting subplot, as Ngezi are coached by former Herentals gaffer Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva.
Herentals eliminated MWOS in the round of 32 and enter Saturday’s encounter with growing confidence after a decent Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign that has seen them occupy fifth place with seven matches remaining.
Sadomba also pointed to the experience within the Students’ squad, particularly veteran midfielder Ralph Kawondera, who was part of Triangle United’s Chibuku Super Cup-winning side in 2018.
While tipping Herentals to cause an upset, Sadomba expects FC Platinum, Hardrock and CAPS United to progress.
He, however, warned that CAPS United could face a stern test when they host Manica Diamonds at Rufaro on Sunday.
“CAPS United are at home against Manica Diamonds, but they will not have it easy,” he said.
Sadomba also backed Bulawayo Chiefs against Chili Boys, while tipping Scottland and FC Hunters to advance.
FC Hunters host Hwange at Wadzanai on Saturday, with the former Al Hilal striker impressed by the side’s youthful talent.
“FC Hunters have gained momentum and confidence. They have some exciting youngsters who can be a handful for Hwange,” he said.
The side boasts promising players, including Tadiwanashe Huni, Elder Chirima, Junior Meya and Vusa Ngwenya.
