FORMER Zimbabwe and Dynamos striker Edward Sadomba has urged ex-footballers to take up sports management courses and venture into administration.
Sadomba graduated with a diploma in Management of Olympic Sport Organisations in Harare yesterday.
The diploma course is conducted annually by the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC).
Over 10 students, including former marathon champion Cuthbert Nyasango, were handed their certificates by director of sport in the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Eugenia Chidhakwa at the graduation ceremony held at the ZOC offices.
“Basically, I would like to thank God . . . It wasn’t easy studying day and night,” he said.
“This is important and key for the growth of sport in the country.
“I also want to urge former footballers to indulge in these sports management courses and venture into administration.
“Not all of us can become successful coaches after we retire.”
Sadomba, who also played for Sudanese giants Al Hilal, launched his football career with Harare United in 2001, before rising to become one of the most feared strikers in the land.
He played CAF Champions League football with both Dynamos and Al Hilal of Sudan.
In 2008, he helped DeMbare, then under the tutelage of the late David Mandigora, to reach the Champions League semi-final.
He was part of a side that also featured players such as Murape Murape, Justice Majabvi, Desmond Maringwa, Thomas Sweswe, Sam Mutenheri, Philip Marufu and goalkeeper Willard Manyatera.
He also turned out for Al-Ittihad of Libya and has several national team caps.
The duo of Sadomba and Nyasango were the high-profile former sports stars among those who graduated yesterday.
Nyasango competed for Zimbabwe at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and came a respectable seventh.
He was also the flagbearer for Zimbabwe at the Olympics closing ceremony.
