Sadomba, Chinyama in the mix

The Warriors’ striking duo have now scored three goals each after just two Champions League games and are among some of the continent’s top strikers who have already reached that mark.
The others are TP Mazembe skipper Tresor Mputu and Al Hilal striker Mdathir Eltaib ‘Careca’ while veteran Al Ahly playmaker Mohamed Aboutreika is on two goals so far.
But if both Sadomba and Chinyama’s club form is anything to go by so far then the Zimbabwean forwards could be in the running for the Champions League top scorer.
Sadomba, winner of the award last year with seven goals, appears not yet in the mood to relinquish that crown as he has found the target in the two first round legs in which Al Hilal faced Central African Republic lightweights Diplomates FC.
The Al Hilal talisman opened his Champions League account two weeks ago when sealing the Sudanese giants 3-0 win over Dilplomates FC in Central African Republic.
The former Dynamos hitman then struck a brace in the return leg at the Hilal Stadium in Omdurman on Friday night as Al Hilal, losing semi-finalists last year eased into the second round with a crushing 8-1 aggregate win.
After putting one foot into the second round following their away 3-0 win Al Hilal went into overdrive in the return leg as the Central African Republicans found the atmosphere in the Hilal Stadium too imposing and subsequently crashed 5-1.
Playing before a packed Hilal stadium in a crowd that included a handful of his countrymen who were in Sudan to support FC Platinum in their battle against EL Merreikh the following day, Sadomba justified why he is feted like a king in Khartoum when securing his double in the second half.
Sudanese international Mudathir Eltaib ‘Careca’ who also grabbed a brace on the night opened the scoring in the 18th minute before he added another in the 40th minute.
Sadomba then made it 3-0 on the night three minutes into the second period with the speed merchant taking his Champions League tally to three after adding Al Hilal’s fourth with a 65th minute penalty.
Another Sudanese forward Saif Eldin Masawi then ensured a goal harvest for the “Blue Waves’’, as Al Hilal are affectionately known, when scoring  in the 68th minute.
But there was still time for defender Omer Bakit to concede an own goal and gift the Central African Republicans some measure of consolation as the hosts marched on 8-1 on aggregate.
The manner in which they marched through to the second round for a date against ASO Chlef of Algeria has left Sadomba optimistic about Al Hilal’s chances of progressing through to the mini-league stage.
Sadomba has also now scored eight goals in seven domestic and Champions League matches this year and he will be fancing his chances of adding to his tally when meet bitter rivals El Merreikh in a league tie on Thursday night.
“The fans are ecstatic and the players are feeling high on confidence and we want to thank God for the strength and the guidance.
“As I have said before I am not looking at individual glory, the club comes first and with eight months left on my current contract I want to achieve something special like the Champions League title with this great club.
“We are not putting ourselves under any pressure and we will take it step by step,’’ Sadomba said.
Chinyama, just like Sadomba has also been humble in his moments of triumph insisting that he is not targeting any personal glory and has set his sights on helping the Dynamos cause.
The 30-year-old former Legia Warsaw striker has now made it seven goals in four games for DeMbare having fired a hat-trick in the Harare giants opening league match of the season.
Chinyama had scored once in Dynamos’ 2-1 Charity Shield victory over Motor Action before going a gear up and grabbing a brace in a 2-2 Champions League first round, first leg tie with Liga Muculmana of Mozambique.
On Sunday Chinyama ensured that it is DeMbare who will now face defending champions Esperance  in the second round when he took his Champions League tally to three with his solitary first half strike giving the hosts a 1-0 win at Rufaro.
