Edward Sadomba’s legacy is in safe hands after one of his two sons El Shaddai starred for Zimbabwe at the 2023 CAF African Schools Football Championship at Gateway High School in the capital.
El Shaddai (14) and Adonai (13) were part of the Young Warriors squad that managed to clinch the bronze medal and prize money worth US$ 50 000.
Following his exploits, El Shaddai was included in the tournament’s Best XI as a centre forward after scoring six goals together with Tadiwa Chakuchichi who was named in the team as a central attacking midfielder.
Edward is one of the all-time highest scorers in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup tournaments with 33 goals.
“I feel proud for the boys. They have done well to be selected in the squad and to represent the country. It’s a good thing for me and I am proud of them,” said Edward.
“I was very supportive of them, for what I am today is God and football has changed my life so I am proud of them for following in my footsteps.
“With them choosing football I am happy as it keeps them off drugs and following those footsteps of mine, they can reach that far.
Edward believes El Shaddai has always wanted to be better than him as he emulates his way but he believes there is still a lot of work that needs to be done for him to be complete.
“He always challenges me and says I want to be better than you. I think it keeps him pushing and also as you can see he is following my number 11 jersey and it’s a good thing for me.
“We have to develop him to be a complete player doing the basic training sessions. I think we have just to start there before we talk of Dynamos or Europe.
“I spend a lot of time with those boys at home, I have a 20 × 20 meters pitch which I put by at my homestead so I spend a lot of time, two to three hours training them so when it comes to the matches they won’t have a difficult time,” he said.
For an honoured El Shaddai, the script is already written which is to play for Dynamos before any other adventure.
“It’s an honour to represent my nation at such a young level it’s been amazing. Having two brothers for the same team in the same age group is amazing and I believe we are going to be successful in our different careers, ” he said.
“It’s not even about just following my dad’s footsteps but surpassing him. Doing better than him is my goal.
“Before going to Europe or anywhere I have to make my name here in Zimbabwe for Dynamos just like him.
