Namantandani added that a high-powered South African delegation will also meet CAF to engage them on aligning their calendar with the rest of the world. The delegation will consist of Nematandani, Danny Jordaan, Irvin Khoza, Robin Petersen and Mandla Mazibuko.
“We feel it’s important that we have this gathering because every decision on fixtures that CAF makes impacts on us, and in most cases it impacts negatively.
“We are hoping this meeting will alleviate some of the challenges we have in terms of preparing our teams, both at national team and club level.”
South Africa played three matches in Morocco, drawing against Ivory Coast and Gabon — the two games ended in a 1-1 draw — and lost 2-0 against Egypt in their last game.
“Football is about scoring and winning matches and we did not do that, but I am proud of these boys for giving it their all. They really showed character; after all we did not spend much time together preparing for this tournament,” coach Shakes Mashaba said on their arrival at OR Tambo International yesterday.
“We wanted to win badly but it was not to be, and if you saw the number of chances we got, you will agree that the problem remains goal scoring issue; and this is an entire South African problem.
“We let people down but I would like to say I hope there will be a next time where we can do better.
“We had high hopes for this team as we felt this mission was achievable, but it was not to be. However, we are still proud of the boys as they gave a good account of themselves,” he added.
Meanwhile Orlando Pirates may have in their ranks a Zambian striker Evans Kangwa, who is reportedly on the verge of signing for the team.
Kangwa plays for the Zambia’s national Under-20 team and he is also in line to make the senior national team for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations squad.
KickOff.com spoke to Bucs PRO Mickey Modisane, who was not in a position to confirm whether Kangwa has signed with the reigning PSL champions.
“I can’t confirm that as yet, because internally I haven’t spoken to the administrator,” said Modisane, who will be in the position to make a confirmation, if any, this afternoon.
Kangwa currently plays for Nkana FC, for whom he has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season.
Early in November, he was set to join SuperSport United in a $120, 000 deal, but that move apparently fell through at the last minute. If signed by Pirates, Kangwa can only be registered in January.
The exciting prospect of playing in next year’s CAF Champions League has lured Isaac Chansa to consider renewing his contract with Orlando Pirates.
The midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the season in June.
Chansa – who is a vital cog in the heart of the midfield – revealed to KickOff.com that he is happy playing for the Buccaneers and would like to stay on for another spell.
