A delegation from the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) paid a courtesy call on President Mnangagwa at State House today to brief him on the latest developments and ongoing United Nations peace efforts in Western Sahara.
Speaking after meeting the President, special envoy and Saharawi Foreign Minister Mohamed Yeslem Beissat said he also congratulated President Mnangagwa on securing the United Nations Security Council non-permanent seat.
He said the votes secured by Zimbabwe were a testament to the growing confidence in the country.
“It is one of the biggest scores in the history of the General Assembly, which we think is a vote of confidence in Zimbabwe,” he said.
“It is a vote of support to Zimbabwe. It is a vote against the sanctions, against those who want to impose sanctions.”
He also thanked Zimbabwe for its unwavering support of the people of SADR.
Since Independence, Zimbabwe supported the cause of the people of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in their quest for self-determination and decolonisation from Morocco, which annexed the country in 1975.
