Saka’s injury ‘doesn’t look good at all’

Mikel Arteta said Bukayo Saka’s thigh injury “doesn’t look good at all” after he was forced off in their 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich.

The winger had to be replaced by Eberechi Eze in the 10th minute at the Allianz Arena after hurting his left quad while playing a pass.

Arteta told TNT Sports Arsenal’s medical staff were “concerned” by the injury. “A player that has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news but we have to wait and see,” he added.

He then sounded pessimistic on the injury in his press conference when asked about whether Arsenal’s busy schedule contributed.

“Against Lille, he didn’t start the game. Then he started the game at the weekend. And then it’s very early in this game.

“The level of intensity these games require is something incredible. You could see last night what happened in the PSG-Barcelona game. This is man-to-man for 96 minutes. Every action. There’s no breathing.

“The strength, the quality, the attention, the level that you need is unbelievable because it’s the highest level.
“Those things happen unfortunately. It doesn’t look good at all but we have to wait and see.”

Saka was able to walk off the pitch unassisted but went down the tunnel after a brief conversation with Arteta.

Eze went on to score Arsenal’s opening goal, with Declan Rice later rescuing a draw for the Gunners after Alphonso Davies and Harry Kane had put Bayern in front.

Arsenal, who are already missing Christos Tzolis from their attack due to injury, resume their Premier League campaign at home to Everton on Saturday. – skysports.
