PREMIERSHIP newboys ZPC Kariba owe players outstanding salaries and signing-on fees and this is creating unrest in their camp. Early yesterday the players were said to have threatened not to fulfill tomorrow’s match against Buffaloes at Sakubva.
But the players then changed tune and agreed to continue training and fulfilling fixtures waiting on the promises made by the club executive.
During the off-season the Premiership newcomers recruited a number of players with promises of better packages compared to some established teams in the top-flight league.
But it seems the grass is not green after all on the other side of the valley as the Zimbabwe Power Company is reported to be struggling to put money into the football team.
Yesterday, a player who cannot be named, said they were owed money.
However, the player said they were going to fulfil their fixtures.
He claimed only Norman Togara appeared reluctant to continue training without being paid although no comment could be obtained from the veteran defender.
Club spokesperson Fadzai Chitsveto said she could only respond to questions through email but had not done so at the time of going to print.
Coach Saul Chaminuka said while he was not the right person to comment on the administration issues he was not aware of any unrest and was busy preparing for the weekend’s match.
“We are preparing for our match and there is nothing of that sort. We are actually boarding the bus for our journey. I am sure all these rumours are being done to distract us but we are not bothered and we are just looking at collecting maximum points and continue with our good form. Everything is okay in the camp and the only players that are not part of the team which is traveling are those that are suspended like Obey Mwerahari and those who are injured.
“I am not the right person to comment on monetary issues but the players know our situation and today they received some money so everything is okay,” said Chaminuka.
ZPC Kariba are also still waiting to use their home ground, Nyamhunga, which is undergoing some renovations.
In the meantime, they are having to shuttle to Harare to stage their home matches at Gwanzura.
